I guess domestic tourism is not a new terms to everyone (I guess)...Just recently, Ministry of Tourism had once again launched its domestic tourism (for this year) to reinforce the importance of traveling within the country and also to encourage people to travel and explore our own country.
I remember (hope you also do) that there was once when government discouraged Malaysian from traveling outside the country and that was when our country was hit my the economy disaster. At that time, government really encouraged us to travel within the country.
The domestic tourism campaign has given big impact to the local tourism industry. Many people have benefited from the initiatives made by the government. A lot of new places (tourist places) were discovered, developed and commercialized. It has generated income for especially those who were at the area. Our rural economic sector growth as well. I guess, government has reached its objectives.
I personally encourage people to travel within the country. With the current infrastructure development, accesibility to these places become much easier and mush faster. We have good highways, reliable airlines, excellent facilities but yet people are still not keen to see their own country.
